Ceramic Ferrules
Each stud is supplied with a cordierite ceramic ferrule. The ferrule shields the weld pool from atmospheric contamination during the arc cycle, shapes the fillet weld, and withstands the rapid temperature rise and thermal shock of stud welding without melting or fracture. Ferrules are removed after the weld solidifies.
Installation & Weld Integrity Verification
Installation is performed using drawn-arc stud welding equipment after the profiled steel deck is placed over the supporting beam. The stud gun lifts the fastener, initiates an electric arc that melts the stud tip and a localized area of the beam flange, then plunges the stud into the molten pool—penetrating the deck without the need for pre-drilled holes.
Post-weld integrity is verified by visual examination of the full 360° flash and fillet weld dimensions. A mechanical bend test follows: striking the side of the welded stud with an iron mallet bends the stud to the angle specified in GB/T 10433. A correctly welded stud remains attached and deforms without fracture at the weld joint. Studs that break at the interface under this shear-bending force are deemed defective and must be replaced.
